Event Description
2023 Sustainability Report: Year Four Update

Join us July 21st for a call on the four year anniversary of when Burning Man Project published the 2030 Sustainability Roadmap. We will host a Zoom call with a chat and stream the call on Facebook Live. We’ll discuss progress towards our three goals to Handle Waste Ecologically, Be Regenerative, and Be Carbon Negative. We’ve met our benchmarks for the present juncture in the roadmap:

✔️ Measured our emissions

✔️ Supported decentralized teams and the efforts of green camps and projects

✔️ Oriented the Fly Ranch design challenge around sustainability

✔️ Identified and supported effective offsets

✔️ Started solar pilots

✔️ Hosted a series of sustainability gatherings

✔️ Reduced our fossil fuel use on the way to end fossil fuel use

✔️ Started landfill contribution reductions

Our MC is Director of Civic Activation at Burning Man Project Christopher Breedlove. He will introduce us to ideas, projects, and people leading our sustainability efforts:

Associate Director of Operations Laura Day

Off Fossil Fuels (OFF) Manager George B. Reed III

Black Rock City Utilities Superintendent Sean Kathleen Curran.

Associate Director of Art Management Katie Hazard, Mia Hanak and LAKA'LELUP ART

Associate Director of City Planning Bryant Tan with SOLARPUNKS

DMV Council Member Patrice Mackey and Lemons into Lemonade

Washoe County Sustainability Manager Brian Beffort

Director of Government Affairs Marnee Benson

Director of Fly Ranch Matt Sundquist

Ranch Crew Member Xulia Suero

Director of Philanthropic Engagement Danny Kaufman

Kooyooe Pa’a Guides Founder Autumn Harry

Founding Board Member and CEO of Burning Man Project Marian Goodell

The issues we will face at Black Rock City (BRC) mirror issues we will all face in our lives. We can learn sustainability, survival, and climate adaptation skills through Burning Man then bring those home. We could address climate change if every country, community, and organization met Burning Man Project’s three sustainability goals. We look forward to connecting with you on the call.
